It's Just Opening Day

I picked up a 2014 Topps Opening Day card of Everth Cabrera on eBay recently.  I already owned the blue parallel so I figured I might as well own the base card too.  I think Opening Day has got to be the best value out of the various brands.  It sure beats a pack of Bowman Chrome.

Pack Break: 2014 Topps Opening Day

So I finally opened the three packs of 2014 Topps Opening Day that I picked up at last week’s card show.  Without further ado, here are the results.

The first pack is a good one.  There is a Jeter base card, a blue Jordan Zimmermann card, and a Giancarlo Stanton insert that reminds me of the old Sportflics cards from the 1980s.

The second pack was even better.  That is an Opening Day Autograph of Andrew Lambo.  The odds run at 1 in 278 packs.  Not bad for a buck.  That’s the first time I have ever pulled an autograph out of a loose pack.  If you are anything like me, you have no idea who this guy is.  Lambo got a cup of coffee last year, but he will start this season at Triple A.  He hit .095 in spring training, so he is not Albert Pujols.

The final pack was also decent with a base Puig card and a blue Everth Cabrera card.  I also got a card of the Rangers Mascot which is some kind of moose apparently.  That's a pretty good haul for three bucks though.

Opening Day Bargain

I picked up this 2013 Topps Opening Day card of Albert Pujols for just 15 credits on Listia.  That’s not bad for a Pujols card.  I know it’s Opening Day, but still.  Viva Opening Day!

Ballpark Fun with Miguel Cabrera

I purchased this 2013 Topps Opening Day insert card of Miguel Cabrera on eBay.  It only cost a dime.  There is little selection when it comes to Opening Day inserts.  But I like the insert that are offered.  I bought the card because Cabrera is my starting third baseman on my fantasy team.  He has been amazing this year.  He hits a home run every other night.  If Cabrera doesn’t win the AL MVP, he will have been robbed.

The Red White Sox

I bought the base card of Chris Sale from 2013 Topps Opening Day from an eBay seller recently.  I won’t be buying Opening Day packs, but I am not against buying individual cards.  It’s much cheaper anyway.  I really like the throwback uniform.  It’s tough to design the White Sox uniform.  Most teams take the dominant team color and put it on a white home uniform.  The White Sox should have a white on white uniform.

A Quarter Well Spent

I picked up a lot of 4 cards on eBay for less than a quarter.  That’s not too bad considering the players in the lot.  I received a 2011 A&G Ryan Howard Sketch card, 2012 Topps Opening Day Carlos Gonzalez card, 2012 Topps Ryan Braun card, and a 2012 Topps Cut Above card of Hanley Ramirez.  Unfortunately, the Howard card came with a small ding to the corner.  Otherwise, it was a great lot.

More Opening Day Fun

I purchased another 2013 Topps Opening Day card.  This card features Mark Buehrle.  I picked it up on eBay for 6 cents.  It is essentially the same card that is in the base set.  Buehrle has been a quality pitcher for quite some time.  However, this year has been horrible.  He was part of the salary dump from Miami to Toronto.  The Blue Jays have also been disappointing.  So much for winning the AL East.

Name That Mariner

I bought a pair of 2013 Topps Opening Day cards of Kyle Seager on eBay for 11 cents shipped.  I have not bought any packs or blaster of this year’s Opening Day product.  I only have a few cards from this year’s set which I have purchased individually.  To my surprise, Seager is actually the starting 3rd baseman for the Mariners.  The Mariners don’t get much coverage and deservedly so.  On many teams, Seager is probably a bench player.  Also, if Seager is a starter, then how the heck does Jesus Montero get sent to the minors?  Never mind.

Opening Day + Retro Uniforms

I won this 2013 Topps Opening Day card of Mark Trumbo on Listia for just 12 credits.  That’s a pretty good deal.  I paid the equivalent of 3 or 4 cents for this card.  Trumbo is a decent power hitter.  I think of him as a poor man's Mike Trout.  He probably does not get the coverage that he deserves since he plays on the west coast though.  By the way, how about some bonus points for the throwback uniform.
