Listia Mailbag: The Bossman

I picked up this game used jersey card of BJ Upton on Listia for just about 4000 credits.  The card is from 2014 Topps Heritage.  I wish I bought more Heritage, because I really like the card designs.  In 2014, he was BJ.  But now, he is Melvin Upton, Jr.  That sounds like the name of a scientist, not a baseball player.  The card came with a couple of small stress creases, but they don't take away from the card's overall appearance.

Listia Mailbag: Eric Chavez

I picked up this 2007 Bowman Heritage game-used jersey card of Eric Chavez on Listia recently.  It cost me about 1,000 credits.  It has a couple of minor imperfections, but it's a really nice card.  Chavez is best known as an Athletic.  He retired as a Diamondback last year.  He also spent a couple of years with the Yankees.

Cheap Topps Heritage

I won a Listia auction for this 2013 Topps Heritage of Logan Forsythe recently.  Forsythe is sort of a spare part for the Rays these days.  However, I like Topps Heritage, so I pulled the trigger.  Also, most importantly, the card only cost me 4 credits.  That's a rounding error.  That being said, how hard is it to put a baseball card in a penny sleeve before putting it in a plain white envelope?  I'm not complaining.  I am just making a public service announcement.

Listia Mailbag: Yonder Alonso

I bought this 2014 Topps Heritage card of Yonder Alonso on Listia for just 22 credits.  It’s a great design.  I especially like the little team banner on the bottom left of the card.  Alonso arrived with the Padres in the Mat Latos trade from the Reds.  The Padres got the better of that trade in my opinion.  Alonso hasn’t been great so far, but he’s still young.

Here's Some Topps Heritage

Here’s what 12 cents of Topps Heritage looks like courtesy of eBay.  On the left is a 2011 card of Jair Jurrjens.  Jurrjens is best known for his work with the Braves before injuries derailed his career.  On the right is the 2012 card of Chase Utley.  For my money, I prefer the 2011 design.  It’s a cleaner design, and reminds me of 1987 Topps.  Although 1987 Topps was the height of the junk wax era, it still brings back a good childhood memory.

Listia Mailbag: Ryan Howard

Here’s my latest Listia acquisition.  It’s a 2014 Topps Heritage card of Ryan Howard.  It only cost 22 credits.  Of course, Howard is sort of on the downswing.  He is currently underperforming his bloated contract.  He is still with the Phillies as the team is unable to unload him.  I love the Heritage design this year.  The color is well done.  Also, I like the photography.  Heritage is usually a good product.

Discounted Relic Card

I picked up a 2010 Topps Heritage game-used jersey card of Jeff Francis on eBay recently.  Don’t let that $8.00 price tag fool you.  I only paid $0.65 for this card.  Francis used to be the best pitcher on the Rockies, but his stock has fallen in recent years.  It’s a nice card with a nice black swatch of jersey.

2012 Topps Heritage: Jed Lowrie

I purchased this 2012 Topps Heritage card of Jed Lowrie on eBay for 6 cents with free shipping.  I only bought this card for the purpose of sending it out through the mail to get signed by Mr. Lowrie.  He appears to be a pretty good signer through the mail and I only owned one other card of Lowrie.  That card is a 2008 Topps Heritage card.

I've Neglected You Topps Heritage

My most recent eBay purchase involved a lot of 2012 Topps Heritage base cards.  Actually, I bought two separate lots.  One was a Blue Jays lot and one was a Cubs lot.  I never bought packs of this stuff, so I figured I would add some cards to the collection.  There are some duplicates, but these cards were much cheaper than buying packs so I can’t complain.  These cards seem like they would be great for autographing.  I hope to do some spring training and TTM autographing this year.  By the way, those Darwin Barney cards are not the error cards.  Neither is the Kerry Wood card.

2012 Topps Heritage Pack Break

I picked up a pair of 2012 Topps Heritage packs for less than $3.00 total.  That's not a terrible price for loose packs.  I didn’t get anything fabulous.  But I did get two short prints in Juan Nicasio and Jonny Venters.  The cards are colorful and provide a great non-glossy surface for autograph seeking down the road.

eBay Mailbag: Carlos Beltran

I recently purchased a 2011 Topps Heritage card of Carlos Beltran on eBay for only six cents. Despite what the scowl on Beltran’s face on the card might suggest, I was actually quite happy to make this purchase. This is my first card from 2011 Topps Heritage since I didn’t purchase any packs last year. I like the design much better than some of the previous years. Beltran is a Cardinal this year after spending time as a Met and Giant last year. Today, he is also my pick in MLB’s Beat the Streak Challenge.

Cards from Cards on Cards

I recently completed a trade with Kerry from Cards on Cards. I sent over a bunch of my 1993 Upper Deck duplicates in exchange for some Topps Heritage card of varying years. By the way, if anyone needs any 1993 Upper Deck, let me know. I have plenty. Anyway, here are the highlights of the trade in what I think is chronological order.

The neatest card may be the expired redemption card. A little research reveals that a timely submission would result in a Pablo Sandoval Red Hot Rookies card. Time makes fools of us all though. I ended up with a pretty good haul. Thanks for the trade.

TTM Mailbag: Adam Kennedy

My latest TTM autograph return comes from Adam Kennedy c/o his home address. He returned a 2008 Topps Heritage card in only 7 days. The signature is in blue Sharpie without any smudges. Unfortunately, the card got a small ding on the bottom left corner while traveling through the mail. The card still looks great though. Topps Heritage cards are excellent for autographs. Kennedy will go to Spring Training with the Mariners this year.
