Tales of Former Yankees

I picked up a 2012 Gypsy Queen card of Phil Hughes on eBay recently for a mere 6 cents.  Hughes is in Minnesota so the Yankee premium no longer exists.  He is actually having a decent year.  Why didn't he pitch like this when he was in New York?  But, I digress.  I rarely will pass up a Gypsy Queen card at this price.  And the fact that this is a former Yankee in a Yankee uniform is icing on the cake.

Mets Gypsy Queen Lot

I picked up 3 Gypsy Queen cards of Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy, and Jonathon Niese on eBay.  The whole lot cost me 14 cents shipped.  Go figure.  All three are current Mets.  I am never sure whether Gypsy Queen cards feature photos, drawings, or both.  Whatever the image on the front is, it’s very well done.  Niese and Murphy should be OK this season if they stay healthy.  The Mets are going to have a problem at first base.  It’s basically a tossup between Ike Davis and Lucas Duda.  Neither is a great option.  Both are banged up at the moment.  I would throw Josh Satin out at first base.  He couldn’t do any worse.

The Gypsy Princess

I picked up a pair of 2012 Gypsy Queen minis on eBay.  They should be called Gypsy Princess.  ( Ha Ha)  I paid less than a dime for each one.  The cards feature Nelson Cruz and Ricky Nolasco.  Nolasco recently went to the Twins.  Cruz is a free agent.  I have always liked the Gypsy Queen cards.  But, these mini cards are starting to grow on me.

Kyle Drabek Insert Card

I bought this 2011 Gypsy Queen card of Kyle Drabek on eBay for only 10 cents.  I have a couple of Drabek cards already, so I decided to add to the collection.  Also, I really like the shade of blue on the front of the card.  Drabek was and still is a prospect for the Blue Jays and being traded by the Phillies.  He is on his way back from Tommy John surgery.  This card is an insert called Future Stars.  Maybe I got this card at a discount since Drabek is currently on the shelf.

2012 Gypsy Queen Pack Break: Part 4

My fourth and final pack of 2012 Gypsy Queen was decent.  I picked up a Frank Robinson Moonshots card and a Nolan Ryan base card.  There was also a Jeff Niemann mini.  The remaining base cards were Jon Lester, Tim Lincecum, and Curtis Granderson.  I actually ended with three Granderson cards in four packs.

2012 Gypsy Queen Pack Break: Part 2

My second pack of 2012 Gypsy Queen featured another Josh Hamilton insert.  I also received two Curtis Granderson cards.  One was a Sliding Stars card and one was a mini.  The remaining cards were Chris Young, John Axford, and Nick Markakis.

2012 Gypsy Queen Pack Break: Part 1

I purchased 4 packs of 2012 Gypsy Queen for less than two bucks a pack.  The first pack was full of retired players.  I received cards of Wade Boggs, Orlando Cepeda, Frank Robinson, and Ernie Banks.  That alone would be an excellent pack.  But wait, there’s more.  I also received a Josh Hamilton Moonshots card and a David Price mini.  That’s a pretty good first pack.

Cards from Crackin' Wax

I received the cards in the picture from Christopher at Crackin Wax.  It was all part of his “Take My Cards” promotion which is still ongoing.  It’s pretty simple.  Pick out which cards you want.  Send a SASE.  Receive your cards.  I received a few Bowman and Gypsy Queen cards.  My favorite is the Anibal Sanchez mini.  Sanchez is on my fantasy team this year.  He has been OK.  For some reason, I like to accumulate cards of players on my fantasy team.  Thanks for the cards!!

My First Gypsy Queen Card

My latest eBay purchase as a 2012 Gypsy Queen card of John Axford.  I paid 6 cents shipped for the card.  This is my first card of Axford and my first Gypsy Queen card.  I like the overall card design and the fact that the card lacks a glossy finish.  Gypsy Queen seems to have plenty of parallels which is a plus.  However, I’m not sure that I would shell out the $100-$110 that hobby boxes go for on eBay.  The cards are nice but they are not that nice.  I would prefer to just buy and trade individual cards.  Axford has a bloated ERA so far, but he has saved 6 games.  In fact, he just blew his first save in 50 tries.  I have a warm spot in my heart for closers.  I have won at least one fantasy league because of my closers.
