eBay Mailbag: Javy Guerra

My latest eBay purchase was a 2012 Topps card of Javy Guerra.  I paid all of one cent with free shipping.  I couldn’t pass up any 2012 Topps card for a penny.  Guerra is not a star, but he is a decent relief pitcher for the LA Dodgers.

Listia Mailbag: Dontrelle Willis

My latest Listia purchase was a 2004 Fleer Tradition jersey card of Dontrelle Willis.  I still have a soft spot for Willis even though he dropped off the face of the earth.  The card cost 427 credits.  There were 2 small creases around the edge of the jersey swatch.  But it was still a good deal.  I would spend this many credits on any jersey card of a player whose name I recognize.

White Plains Card Show: Part 4

I spent quite a bit of time cherry picking a 3/$1 box at the White Plains Card Show.  I did so until my neck started to hurt.  The end result was 8 Albert Pujols cards and a Derek Jeter card to round out the lot.  Here is the loot.

White Plains Card Show: Part 3

I found a few good deals in a dollar bin at the White Plains Card Show.  First, I picked up a 2008 UDx Autograph of Marlon Byrd.  It’s a sticker autograph and certainly not a star player.  But I couldn’t pass this up for a buck.  Second, I bought a 2012 Topps Jersey Card of Sergio Santos.  The neat thing about this card is the jersey swatch.  It is blue with a white pinstripe.  I believe this is from a throwback uniform.  The funny thing is I lost an auction for this very card about a month ago.  Finally, I purchased a 2012 Gypsy Queen Jersey Card of Nelson Cruz.  This is my first Gypsy Queen Relic Card.  I now have regret about some of the cards I did not pick up out of this box, including a few Jesus Montero cards.  Oh well.

White Plains Card Show: Part 2

The free autograph at the White Plains Card Show was Howard Johnson.  I got on line about 20 minutes before the signing was scheduled to start.  It was a good thing I did.  The line was really long by the time the signing started.  HoJo was really cool.  He signed my 1993 Upper Deck card in black Sharpie.  He actually let some of the kids try on his 1986 World Series Ring.  That thing is really big.

White Plains Card Show: Part 1

I spent the better part of my Sunday attending the Fall Classic Card Show in White Plains, NY.  Overall, it was a great day as usual.  I will start with a few observations.  First, the usual parking lot which costs $4.00 was closed.  Apparently, some sort of marathon was occurring at the same time as the show.  I parked on a nearby side street.  It was a shorter walk, I saved $4.00, and I found a new free spot to park. Sorry Westchester County.  This makes up for the parking ticket I got in the City of White Plains about a year ago.  Second, I noticed a heck of a lot more vintage cards than usual.  That’s not really my thing.  Third, I noticed that a lot of the dealers were actually buying cards.  I had one approach me and ask if I had anything to sell.  Many dealers had signs indicating that they were buying.  Finally, many of the dealers complained about how business was slow and they were not making much money.  This is nothing new.  In fairness, the show floor certainly was not packed.  I will show off all of my swag this week.

Listia Mailbag: Chris Iannetta

My latest Listia purchase was a 2012 Allen & Ginter jersey card of Chris Iannetta.  It’s a really nice card.  Although, if I bought a hobby box and pulled this card, I would not be happy.  I paid 656 credits for the card.  That seems to be a decent price for a jersey card from this set.  I am not sure that Iannetta’s performance warrants a jersey card but that’s a different story.
